LOLER Inspections

At MACS Mewps & Cherry Picker Services, our qualified engineers carry out LOLER inspections on all makes and models, including Genie, JLG, Niftylift, Skyjack, LGMG, Zoomlion, Sinoboom, Snorkel and more.

What is a LOLER Inspection?

If your business uses lifting equipment such as cherry pickers, scissor lifts, boom lifts or spider lifts, you are legally required to comply with the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER).

Why is LOLER important?

LOLER is a set of UK health and safety regulations designed to ensure that all lifting operations are carried out safely. Every employer has a legal duty to make sure equipment is safe to use, properly inspected, and operated by trained staff.

What does a LOLER inspection involve?

A LOLER inspection must be carried out by a competent, qualified person who can assess whether your access platforms or lifting equipment are safe, fit for purpose, and compliant. These thorough examinations include:

  • Checking the mechanical, hydraulic, and structural integrity of the equipment

  • Confirming the machine is correctly labelled, tracked, and certified

  • Identifying and recording any faults or safety issues

  • Issuing a report of thorough examination to prove compliance

It’s important to note that a LOLER inspection is not the same as routine servicing or maintenance. While servicing keeps your equipment running smoothly, LOLER specifically ensures it is legally safe to operate.

Who is responsible?

The responsibility falls on the business owner or duty holder to ensure LOLER inspections are carried out at the required intervals — usually every 6 months for access platforms and lifting equipment.
